Clear Aligner FAQs

Here are some of the common questions about clear aligners to help you decide to make the decision to invest in yourself and invest in your smile.
Why choose clear aligners?
Clear aligners shape your smile with small movements over time. They offer a discreet, removable option for straightening teeth. Dr. Shoumer can help you decide whether clear aligners are right for you.
What makes clear aligners convenient?
Clear aligner trays are custom made for your teeth and move them according to the treatment plan coordinated by Dr. Shoumer. Since you can remove the trays, maintaining excellent oral hygiene at home and at your dental visits is easy.
How often will I need to see the dentist?
After your impression is taken, it takes about 5-6 weeks for your trays to be manufactured and arrive in our office. You will come in to have these first aligners delivered to you, along with instructions for care, and answers to any of your treatment questions. Subsequently, you will be seen in our office every six weeks to receive additional aligners, for short appointments. There are no emergency or poking wire appointments!
Will clear aligner trays affect my lifestyle?
Not at all! They are practically invisible, and easily removable for eating and drinking. It is recommended you wear them 20-22 hours per day, and this is very achievable, while still allowing you to pursue all of your normal daily activities. If you want to remove them for a special social or professional occasion, go ahead! You can be yourself while straightening your teeth, without a reason to hide your smile.
Can I afford clear aligners?
Clear aligner treatment costs essentially the same as braces. We offer interest free payment plans over the length of your aligner treatment. We also submit to your insurance company to help you receive your full orthodontic benefits.
What happens when I finish my treatment?
At the end of your treatment, we want to make sure that you are happy with the results, and will discuss if you need additional treatment, called “refinement” (this is at no extra cost). When you are satisfied with your new smile, we provide retainers to help maintain the position of your teeth and explain how to wear them.
