Donna has been a hygienist for over 35 years. She grew up in Ohio and had planned on being a music teacher but, instead, she enrolled in a dental hygiene program. She has no regrets and feels she has the best of both worlds- a great career that allows her to interact with a variety of people and help her patients through education and providing quality care. And, she still plays her French horn. Donna loves being part of the supportive, caring, and patient-centered team led by Dr. Shoumer.
In addition to music, Donna loves animals. She currently has 3 cats: Nick, Nora, & Myrrh, and a white German Shepherd, named Asta. Donna’s goal is to become a docent at the Philadelphia Zoo, one of her favorite places to visit.
Karen began working in the field in 1986 as a dental assistant, then continued her education at Harcum College in 2007 to get her EFDA (Expanded Function Dental Assistant) license. She takes great pride in patient care and continuing education. What Karen likes most about our practice is that everyone that works here is like one big family and we all get along. As for patients, seeing how happy they are when they leave here with a new smile is the best feeling. It really makes the day exciting!
Karen lives in Wayne with her husband Chris and her Maine Coon cats. On most weekends she spends time with the Valley Forge Audubon Society on guided bird walks all over beautiful Chester County. She also enjoys spending time with her daughter Lindsay, photography, the beach, and gardening.
