Invisalign general information
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a personalized and COMPLETELY CUSTOMIZED method to straighten your teeth. Using clear retainers, your teeth are shifted gradually into the position determined by Dr. Shoumer to be the best for your dental health and appearance.
What are Invisalign Trays?
Invisalign uses SmartTrackTM material to engineer your aligners, and each tray is individually trimmed to ensure a custom fit. Invisalign products are consistently proven in their quality and durability. You wear your aligners from 20-22 hours per day, removing them for eating, drinking anything except water, and brushing/flossing.
How does it work?
The mantra at Invisalign is “Made to Move” . . . and it is a perfect expression. Each tray is worn for one week, and the trays are engineered to move your teeth gradually with tiny movements over time. You wear your aligners from 20-22 hours per day, removing them for eating, drinking anything except water, and brushing/flossing. Visit Dr. Shoumer approximately every six weeks to check in for a brief visit to make sure all is on target, and answer any of your questions. This is called the “active phase” of treatment.
Why choose Invisalign over traditional braces?
Invisalign is a proven method to deliver straighter teeth in a manner which is very convenient for the patient, and can be used by both teens and adults. The trays are practically invisible when you wear them, so it does not limit your professional or social activities. Very importantly, since the trays are removable, oral hygiene continues to be a priority!
When Should I Visit an Invisalign Dentist?
Schedule a consultation with Dr. Shoumer right away to discuss whether treatment with an Invisalign dentist is right for you. An easy impression will be taken, and this will be sent to Invisalign, where your trays will be manufactured under the treatment plan prescribed by Dr. Shoumer. It will take about 4-6 weeks for the trays to be sent back to our office, and we will deliver them to you in an appointment designed to guide you in proper Invisalign wear.
What about when my treatment is finished?
Once your teeth are in position, and Dr. Shoumer and you are happy with the results, we order a retainer called Vivera, which is also an Invisalign product. You will need to wear this retainer at night; there are four sets of duplicate retainers, so you can have one at home, one on vacation, whatever your needs. This will retain all the movement achieved by the Invisalign Treatment; this is called the “retention phase” of treatment.
